MALLANDAINE
Sarah Edith Mallandaine was born in Dinan, France on 7 August 1844. She was the daughter of
Lieutenant Colonel John West Mallandaine and Cecilia Hawkes. Her father retired from service in the East
India Company and moved his growing family to Brittany, France to take advantage of a lower cost of
living. When her father's health deteriorated, the family began their return to England. They made it as
far as Jersey before John's health failed and he died on 19 February 1859. Sarah settled in Folkestone
with her mother and sisters.

Sarah later took a position as a French Teacher at the Abbey School in Bury St Edmonds. This girl's
boarding school was run by Anne Fulcher, Henry's sister.

39 (mark)death cert

cause of death: carcinomatosis

the 'Aged 43' in the index should be 63.
Along with his name he might well have tweaked his age!

He is now proprietor of a Coffee House and lives round the corner at 6 Paradise Street with wife E.A. ANSTRUTHER from the 'Refreshment Rooms' at 2&3a Littlegate Street St Ebbes [Kelly's Directory].

I have sent for the death cert for this George Anstruther. The index has
his death aged 43 which may mean he is son of Melgund and the correct name
in Kelly's directory 1935 & 1939. Will let you know of developments. I
will then check the Electoral rolls in Oxford.

41 (mark:) I recently got a copy from Amanda of a 1983 letter from the well known theatrical agents Raymond Mander and Joe Mitchenson. It is carefully written an says " It is probably known to you that the name Lupino was not the family name, but adopted by George Hook [1820-1902] who appropriated the name Luppino - his onetime partner. Barry's family history adopted the antecedents of the real Italian Luppino. We have noted this in our 'Pantomime, a story in pictures', published in 1973."

They add, " The Webster side, to the best of our knowledge, is 'nothing' to do with 'the' Webster family, whose story was written and published some years ago by Margaret Webster.
